Paul’s Explanation of His Ministry | 2 Corinthians (ch. 1 - 3)

One of the intriguing parts of the Bible is the New Testament and the story of Apostle Paul, who was instrumental in spreading the gospel to the gentiles. The book of 2 Corinthians Chapters 1 through 3 contains a fascinating account of the close relationship between the Apostle Paul and the Corinthians Church. Furthermore, this account can inspire and teach believers about love, forgiveness, and spiritual growth.

The First Chapter of 2 Corinthians highlights not only the close relationship between Apostle Paul and the Corinthians Church but also the struggles they faced together. Apostle Paul had previously written a severe letter rebuking the Corinthians Church for tolerating immoral behavior, and now in Chapter 1, he expresses his delight at their repentance. His opening words of comfort and compassion demonstrate his heart as an apostle and friend: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort."(2 Corinthians 1:3) Apostle Paul then shares his own experience of suffering, emphasizing that God uses even the darkest moments of our lives for His glory. In this way, he not only brings comfort to the Corinthians Church, but also deepens their faith.

In Chapter 2 of 2 Corinthians, Apostle Paul speaks about how he chose to forgive an offender in the church. He had previously instructed the Corinthians Church to take disciplinary action against someone who had apparently caused them much pain. The offender had appeared to have repented, but Apostle Paul saw an opportunity to illustrate the power of forgiveness. He tells the Corinthians Church that he forgave the offender so that Satan would not gain an advantage over them. He recognizes that forgiveness and reconciliation are vital, and they ultimately glorify God. Apostle Paul's ability to guide the Corinthians Church towards spiritual maturity through humility, forgiveness, and reconciliation is an excellent example for all believers.

The Third Chapter of 2 Corinthians is a beautiful depiction of how the power of the Holy Spirit transforms believers' hearts. The contrast of the glory of the old covenant, represented by Moses' face, with the new covenant's glory shows how God's Spirit changes hearts. As believers, we have an assurance that, like Moses, we can encounter God and experience His transforming presence. Apostle Paul emphasizes that through the Holy Spirit, believers are transformed into Christ's likeness with increasing glory, enabling them to become agents of God's love and purposes.

The book of 2 Corinthians Chapters 1 through 3 shows the great relationship and closeness that existed between Apostle Paul and the Corinthians Church. Apostle Paul's love and guidance for the believers in Corinth were a crucial factor in their spiritual growth and success. We learn many valuable lessons from Paul's teachings, such as love, forgiveness, humility, and spiritual maturity. The power of the Holy Spirit for transformation highlighted in Chapter 3 provides believers with the strength and assurance they need, and Apostle Paul's example reminds us that a deeper relationship with Christ enables us to become effective ambassadors of God's word. Let us follow Apostle Paul's example and seek to build strong relationships with believers in our churches, as it brings spiritual maturity and unity.

The Gospel Message

The Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well today, and able to do all things. All power is given Him, and through His name, we are forgiven, and through the shedding of His blood our sins are remitted, and that His Word stands as true today as it did 2000 years ago. Repentance of one's sins, water baptism in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and being baptized with the Holy Ghost is His divine specific plan of salvation.
