Jehovah-Shalom | The Lord Sends Peace

Jehovah-Shalom | The Lord Sends Peace

In times of chaos and turmoil, it's easy to feel lost and alone. As Christians, we often turn to the Lord for guidance and comfort, relying on His love and protection to carry us through the storms of life. But did you know that God has a specific name for the peace that He brings?  It's called Jehovah-Shalom, meaning "the Lord sends peace". Understanding the meaning behind this name can bring us renewed strength and faith in times of trouble.

Jesus is Jehovah-Shalom

The name Jehovah-Shalom appears in the book of Judges, where Gideon is called by God to lead the Israelites against the Midianites. In Judges 6:24, Gideon builds an altar to the Lord and calls it Jehovah-Shalom, recognizing that it was the Lord who had brought peace to his life and would bring peace to the Israelites. The name Jehovah-Shalom signifies God's desire to bring peace to His people, no matter the situation.

Jehovah-Shalom goes beyond the absence of conflict or fear. It's a peace that brings wholeness, unity, and restoration, even in the midst of chaos and destruction. This was demonstrated through Jesus Christ, who came to bring peace not only to our hearts but also to the world. In John 14:27, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

In times of turmoil, it's easy to focus on the chaos around us, but choosing to focus on Jehovah-Shalom can bring us the strength and faith we need to move forward. Psalm 29:11 says, "The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace." When we focus on the peace of God, we can find the strength to face our challenges with hope and courage.

Jehovah-Shalom also calls us to be peacemakers ourselves, promoting unity and love in a world that can often be divided and filled with hate. As Christians, we are called to follow Jesus' example and bring His peace to those around us. Matthew 5:9 says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

 Conclusion

In difficult times, it's natural to feel overwhelmed and lost, but Jehovah-Shalom reminds us that God is in control and He desires to bring peace to our lives. By focusing on His peace and strength, we can navigate the storms of life with hope and courage. Let us also strive to be peacemakers, following Jesus' example and bringing His love and unity to those around us.

The Gospel Message

The Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well today, and able to do all things. All power is given Him, and through His name, we are forgiven, and through the shedding of His blood our sins are remitted, and that His Word stands as true today as it did 2000 years ago. Repentance of one's sins, water baptism in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and being baptized with the Holy Ghost is His divine specific plan of salvation.
