Janette and I have visited Kennedy Space Center (NASA) a couple of times while in Florida. Each time I was awestruck at the amazing feat these engineers accomplished. Those early launches in the 60’s were not done by a bunch of guys with Ph.D’s (doctorates). They were really just “math geeks” with crew cuts and a pocket protector full of mechanical pencils. When they put the pencil to the paper they came up with solutions to how to get a man to the moon and back. They just focused on the math and did absolutely magnificent things.
In this chapter of 2nd Peter we find the math problem that gives us true success in our life. It does not use algebra or geometry. It is a simple addition problem. Add virtue to faith, then add knowledge to that sum. Take that answer and add temperance. Don’t stop yet because the answer you really need takes patience. So add that in. Keep on adding godliness, brotherly kindness and the answer appears! There it is.....LOVE. The Word of God says we must love the Lord with all our being and we must do the same for those around us. Most of the time it seems harder than getting to the moon.
But wait! There is a checklist.
I can tell you for sure writing down a checklist and going down step by step results in completing your goal. Talk about a list worth WRITING down, then praying about each step! Oh yeah, it is just simple math and the Creator who flung the stars into space will help us do it.
I remember a sermon Bro Garrett gave a few years back on this. It was great then and it's great now. Got my check list written down and ready to go. Thank you Bro Hal
It's a good thing for me that math wasn't one of the requirements to get to Heaven! What a beautiful step by step method to accomplish God's ways, Bro Hal!! Thank you for pointing this out!
