God's Word says that through the foolishness of preaching, believers would be saved (1 Cor 1:21). This is how God decided to speak to the people, through pastors (or shepherds), apostles, prophets, evangelists and teachers. Powerful, anointed preaching and inspiring music can truly lift you up, ignite your faith and direct you down a path of righteousness.
Why did God set it up this way?
Why did God decide to speak to a pastor and have him stand behind a desk, on a street corner or in front of a camera and deliver God's word? That question has been asked and debated many times.
We can only look to the Bible and see if this structure is, in fact, God's way. Throughout the Old Testament, we can read that God always spoke to a man and gave Him direction, which he then told the people. We can read of one of the earliest and most recognized example, Moses. God did not speak to all the Israelites throughout the land of Goshen about His plans and desires for them but he spoke to one man and told that man to carry his message to the people. Can you imagine the faith of the Israelites to listen and follow Moses? No wonder they were resistant at first. Jeremiah says, God promises to give his people Israel, “shepherds after my (God's) own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding” (Jer. 3:15).
God spoke to many individuals during the times of the judges that carried His message, Gideon, Samson, and others. We can skip forward and read how Paul told Timothy to lead and pastor his church and how Luke (the bishop in Jerusalem) watched over the apostles and gave guidance (as he was led of the Holyghost) when questions arose.
Preaching is foolishness, but it's interesting to see that God chose something that He called foolish and yet asked you and me to believe. Doesn't that sound like the scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:27?
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
