Growing up in a Christian household, I was taught that Jesus should be at the center of my life. However, as life got busier, I found myself unintentionally drifting away from Him. Maybe you can relate? Whether it's the demands of work, raising a family, or personal struggles, keeping Jesus as the focal point can seem like a daunting task at times. But it doesn't have to be. In this sermon, let's explore how we can make Jesus the center of our lives, again, and it all starts with recognizing the 'need' for Him!
The first step in making Jesus the center of our lives is recognizing that we need Him. When life gets overwhelming and everything seems out of control, we can turn to Jesus for guidance and strength. Just like how Mary sat at Jesus' feet because she recognized that she needed Him, we too can remind ourselves of our utter dependence on Him. By acknowledging our need, we open ourselves up to His presence and work in our lives.
One of the simplest yet most effective ways to make Jesus the center of our lives is to prioritize spending time with Him. This can look different for different people, but some ideas include setting aside a regular time for devotionals, going on walks and talking to God, or listening to worship music. By making intentional time with Jesus a priority, we show ourselves and others that He is the most important thing in our lives.
We are influenced by those we surround ourselves with. This is why it's important to surround ourselves with people who share our faith. Having friends who are also actively trying to make Jesus the center of their lives can provide accountability, encouragement, and support. Church communities, Bible study groups, and online Christian communities are great places to start.
Making Jesus the center of our lives doesn't just happen during our designated "Jesus time". We can keep Him at the forefront of our minds throughout the day by praying, reading scripture, and continually inviting Him into our thoughts and decisions. This helps us to maintain a mindset of dependence on Him, even in the midst of busyness and stress.
Making Jesus the center of our lives can be a daunting task, but it is absolutely worth it. By recognizing our need for God, prioritizing time with Jesus, surrounding ourselves with others who share our faith, and keeping Jesus at the center throughout the day, we can strengthen our relationship with Him and experience His peace, joy, and love in every aspect of our lives. May we never forget that our Savior is always with us, and may we continually strive to center our lives around Him.
